Trapani

sicily_trapani_saline_sunset_pageLocated to the North-West of Sicily, Trapani, called “the city of two seas”, is on intersection of the Tyrrhenian sea and Sicily canal. The antique city grow around its harbour even before the Romans arrived, fostering a tradition of fishermen, traders and craftsmen that endures. The rich sea helps the local economy and shapes the coastline with its salt productions that represent an important heritage for the city, included in the natural reserve of salt pans of Trapani and Paceco. It has an exciting history that has left its marks with much of Arabic and Spanish influences in architecture, art, and culture. Well connected, it relies on its commercial and tourist harbour and Birgi’s airport, and represents a good point of departure for excursions to the interesting surrounding areas.
